#15for15 Donor Spotlight

Charlotte Jennie Reynolds will always hold a special place in our family’s story. She lived just two doors down, but her presence made it feel like she was much closer. When Roger and Rachel needed a sitter, Charlotte would often find herself at our house — eating popsicles, watching Finding Nemo, diving into imaginative play, and becoming, in every meaningful way, part of our extended family.

One of our most treasured memories is from a family celebration at the Melting Pot. As dessert arrived and everyone dipped treats into melted chocolate with their fondue forks, Charlotte had a different idea. With the pure joy and spontaneity only a child can offer, she waited for us to pour the chocolate onto her plate — then picked it up and licked it clean, giggling with delight.

Summers were especially memorable. Mowing the lawn was nearly impossible without seeing her tiny feet running over and her familiar plea in her sweet preschool voice: “Mistor Fweeed, I neeeeed a popsicle!” Her words still echo in our hearts.

When Charlotte passed away, our grief was overwhelming. We wanted to do something — anything — to honor her life, her joy, and the deep love we felt for her and her family. Though money was always tight, we realized we didn’t need to give a large amount all at once. Instead, we began setting aside a little from each paycheck to donate to CJSTUF — a gesture that became a ritual of remembrance and love. That small decision turned into something lasting. We’ve never stopped giving — and we never will.

We vividly remember the challenges Rachel and Roger faced during Charlotte’s cancer journey. Their little family of three was often pulled in different directions — one parent traveling with Charlotte for treatments, the other staying behind to manage work and finances. The distance between them was not just measured in miles, but in the emotional, mental, spiritual, and financial toll that separation brought.

Still, they pressed on. Through weariness and heartache, they found creative ways to stay connected — to be a family, even when circumstances tried to stretch them apart. It was a difficult path, but one they walked with courage and grace.

Out of that experience, Roger and Rachel chose to create something meaningful: CJSTUF. Born from their own pain and perseverance, it became a way to support other families facing similar storms. While CJSTUF can’t take away every burden, it offers something deeply important — a moment of peace, a breath of relief, one less worry in the midst of overwhelming challenges.

In sharing their journey, they have created a lasting gift — one that continues to bring light and comfort where it’s needed most. Charlotte’s spirit and CJSTUF continues to inspire us, reminding us that even the smallest moments — a popsicle on a summer day, laughter over dessert — can leave the deepest marks on our hearts.
